I just ran across this info on joining two pieces of yarn.  Good to know.

Table Runner

This is one of the projects from the felting class-- a felted table runner.  It takes a half meter of Lime prefelt.  Pieces of silk fabric, bamboo, wool and wool yarn were felted into the prefelt.  It makes a nice-size runner and was pretty easy to do.  Prefelt is so useful.  The backing is laid out, all ready for embellishment.

Felting Class

Barbara Llewellyn has taught several felting classes at Legacy Studio.  The scarf in this photo is from the class that used my dyed Merino/Tencel fibre.  The Merino felts and the Tencel is carried along with it.  You get a pretty "squiggle" as the fibres felt.  It makes a pretty scarf with a great sheen.  We've also hand great fun felting bowls and table runners.  We'll do a Nuno class soon.

Painting Fibre

I've been hand-painting Merino-Tencel fibre.  The fibre is first weighed then thoroughly wetted.  I add citric acid to the water it soaks in.  Dyes are mixed and I like to use a squeeze bottle to apply it.  I'm using ProChem Turquoise and Avocado here.  I've placed the blue evenly over the length of the fibre, now I'm applying the green.  When the dye is all applied and saturated through the fibre, I roll up the fibre in the plastic that you see underneath it and place it onto a rack in a steamer for 30 minutes.  It is over the water, not touching it.  The heat sets the dye.

See the Turquoise & Avocado in the back?  I've also painted Violet/Pink and Red/Golden Yellow.  I like the way the yellow makes the red more coral-colored.  The sheen doesn't seem to show much in this photo.  Tencel is very shiny.  This is a 50/50 blend of Tencel with Merino.  This fibre is lovely for hand-spinning, but many are wet-felting it.  The wool does the felting, but carries the Tencel with it so you see the shading wool with the shiny wiggle of the Tencel.

Costa Rica

Our adult children gave us a trip for our wedding anniversary.  We went to Costa Rica where we had a great time.  We saw some beautiful landscape.  I'll show you a photo of the "back yard" of one of the Bed and Breakfast places where we stayed.

Travel Alberta

Great video about Alberta.  The mountain and lake photos are fantastic.  You can make this bigger by clicking on the four arrows bottom right, then use the escape button on your computer to get out of it afterwards.

Spinning for Joy

I enjoy hand-spun yarn.  I appreciate the creativity that goes into making it.  I like the "hand" part of hand-spun -- the thought that hands have made it, not a machine in a factory somewhere far away.  Some part of the maker is in the yarn.  There was planning and anticipation and a little spark of creativity.  Below is a photo of my latest spinning.  I don't know if the colors will show up -- there is green and a bit of orange in the yarn.  I've plyed one strand of Gold Mine mixed Corriedale with a strand of Patina Merino.  Love the color.
